Grand Theft Auto 6 is likely going to go down as the biggest game of all time, and it’s probably going to be monetised as such. We’ve already had numerous editions, very expensive merch, and even extended looks as timed exclusives for streaming services. But does this also extend to you needing PlayStation Plus to play?
Nope. You do not need PlayStation Plus for GTA 6’s PS5 single-player campaign. You may need an internet correction to verify that you hold a licence for the game, but you will not need to be persistently online.
What About GTA Online?
Well, nothing is confirmed yet on that front, but we’re almost certain you will need PS Plus to play GTA 6’s version of GTA Online, whenever that launches. It’s the same case with GTA 5 and basically every paid game with multiplayer components on PlayStation 5.
Is GTA+ Required?
No, GTA+ is not needed to play the game. The GTA+ month offered with eligible digital pre-orders is a promotional membership, not the licence that keeps your GTA 6 purchase playable.
It’s not clear yet how your GTA+ membership will play a part in the GTA 6 single-player campaign, but we would expect something.
Can PS Plus still be useful?
Yes. Sony includes cloud storage for PS5 saves among PlayStation Plus benefits, which will be handy if you ever upgrade from PS5 to PS5 Pro. Cloud saves haven’t been confirmed for GTA 6 as of yet, but we’d be very shocked if such a basic feature isn’t involved.
The simplest package is PlayStation Plus Essential, which costs £7.99 a month or £59.99 a year in the UK, and $10.99 a month or $79.99 a year in the US.
Grand Theft Auto 6 launches on November 19th for PS5 and Xbox Series X & S.
