Xbox Game Pass First Party Availability Also Applies To PC

Crackdown 3

Yesterday, we reported on the news that all future first-party Xbox games, such as the upcoming Sea of Thieves and Crackdown 3, will be available as part of the Xbox Game Pass subscription on launch day. Big news, sure, but it just got even better.

Replying to a prying fan on Twitter, Xbox’s Head of Marketing Aaron Greenberg confirmed that this promotion will also extend to the PC, so long as these future titles are part of the Play Anywhere program.

So, to be clear on this: new Xbox first party titles will be available as part of the Xbox Game Pass, which is pretty damn cheap, and you can also play these games on PC providing they’re Xbox Play Anywhere games. Say what you will about Xbox, but they’re making some pretty interesting moves within the industry right now.

Whether or not this type of promotion will lead to an increase in long term subscribers for the Xbox Game Pass, or just cause people to subscribe and cancel around every major release date, remains to be seen. One thing is clear though: for new Xbox owners, the Game Pass is becoming more and more essential.
