God of War Releasing On April 20th With Multiple Special Editions

God of War

We’ve been waiting ages for this one, but we’ve finally been given a confirmed date. Sony Santa Monica Studios’ reboot/revamp of God of War will be releasing on April 20th. Y’know, 4/20. Even Cory Barlog, creative director at Santa Monica, couldn’t resist making a joke of it on the official PlayStation blog.

The news of this release date also comes with a new narrative trailer, which provides some insight as to why Kratos and his son Atreus are going off on their travels. It’s light on gameplay, heavy on cutscenes and plot, but it looks to be a more engaging and rewarding plot than the mindless murderthons of the previous games. Not that they weren’t fantastic, but you didn’t play them for the plot. Check out the trailer below.

But we’re not done with the announcements. It’s also been revealed that God of War will be launching with multiple special editions of the game, including the Collector’s Edition, the Stone Mason’s Edition and the Digital Deluxe Edition. All pre-orders come with 3 “legendary” shield skins, if that’s your bag.

The Digital Deluxe Edition is the cheapest of the special editions, which includes an exclusive armour set, Issue #0 of a comic book series created by Dark Horse, and more. The Collector’s Edition contains all that digital content, along with a 9″ statue of Kratos and Arteus, Huldra Brothers carvings, an exclusive lithograph and more. The Stone Mason Edition includes all of that stuff, along with four unique items: two more carvings, a Stone Mason Ring and a Mimir Head keychain. Unfortunately, the Stone Mason Edition isn’t actually available outside of the US and Canada.
