WWE 2K21 Officially Cancelled

Does this mean I have to put up with 2K20 for TWO YEARS?!

WWE 2K20 review

WWE have themselves confirmed that the next instalment in the 2K line of wrestling video games will not be hitting shelves in 2021.

WWE 2K21 has officially been taken out of the pipeline after the backlash 2K received for the poor production behind WWE 2K20. With a plethora of technical issues that still need addressing six months after release, there’s no doubt that 2K Sports need to take a year out to focus on how to bounce back after such a rough year.

Even though 2K Sports have yet to release a statement on the matter, it all seems that 2K21 is dead in the water. Although this might not necessarily mean that all wrestling fans have to play in the meantime is 2K20, as rumours suggest that there might be another wrestling title in the works for 2020.

Justin Leeper, a former writer for 2K and motion capture artist, added weight to the speculation of us seeing a new and original wrestling game sometime in the next year, separate from Visual Concepts and putting the focus on something other than simulation. Perhaps this will be something akin to the likes of WWE All Stars or the arcade-style of No Mercy on the N64.

There’s no doubt that WWE and 2K needed to take a year out to work on the kinks that led to the meteoric downfall of 2K20. Whether we’ll still see a wrestling game released this year or not is currently up in the air, thanks to the effects of the global pandemic, but we can safely say that 2K21 will not be on the cards for Fall of this year.
