Vinland Saga: Season 3 – What You Should Know

Manga and anime creators have a clear love toward Norse culture and mythology. Most fantasy anime you’d find have more Norse themes or references than any other mythology out there. If you’re a true Norse culture buff though, Vinland Saga might just be the best anime for you. And there’s no better time to watch it now that Vinland Saga: Season 3 is all but inevitable.

Vinland Saga doesn’t just have Norse references or motifs; it’s loosely based on real historical events and people. It’s set in medieval Europe, with Thorfinn as the main protagonist. Thorfinn is loosely based on a real-life Icelandic explorer of the same name. The show follows him around as he deals with the harsh realities of 11th-century Europe. Can’t wait for a release date? Here’s what you should know about Vinland Saga: Season 3.

When Is Vinland Saga: Season 3 Being Released?

There is no official release date for Vinland Saga: Season 3 yet. In fact, there hasn’t even been an announcement for Season 3. At least not officially.

However, reading between the lines, you can get some clues from a recent tweet from Takahiko Abiru, the series creator. In the tweet itself, he says that “Thorfinn’s journey will continue.”

If that isn’t a big enough hint for you, Takahiko also included an image in the tweet. The image is of Thorfinn pointing at the screen, standing in front of a mountain range and a gorgeous cloudy sky. A logo of Vinland Saga is also displayed, but you’ll notice there are three blue lines hidden in the logo, which is a clear sign that this is the new logo for Vinland Saga: Season 3.

If you’re looking for a rough guess of when Season 3 will release, Season 2 took almost three years to release after the first season finished. Expect Season 3 in 2025 at the earliest.

What Is Vinland Saga: Season 3 About?

Season 2 ended at around Chapters 100 to 101 of the manga. This is when the Eastern Expedition Arc is about to start. So, Vinland Saga: Season 3 will go on from Chapter 101 or Volume 15 of the manga.

The Eastern Expedition Arc is about Thorfinn’s return to his homeland, Iceland. His return leads to an emotional reunion with his family. Ever the dreamer, this is only a temporary visit. Thorfinn will leave as soon as his and Einar’s search for Vinland gets funded. Then, they’re off again, this time to Greece.

Along the way, he’ll meet new friends, but also encounter new wars between Jomsvikings factions.

Which Studio Is Making Vinland Saga: Season 3?

There are currently no confirmations on which companies are making Vinland Saga: Season 3. The best bet would likely be the previous companies. Production I.G, Dentsu, Kodansha, and Twin Engine are the co-producers for Season 1. It remained mostly the same for Season 2, except Production I.G. ducked out. For the animation studios, Wit Studio animated Season 1, while MAPPA took care of Season 2.

You probably recognize a lot of these names if you’ve been watching anime for a long time. Other iconic anime like Attack On Titan, Jujutsu Kaisen, and Spy x Family have come from some of the companies listed.

Where To Watch Vinland Saga

Season 1 and 2 of Vinland Saga is on Crunchyroll and Netflix, with the series originally being exclusive to Netflix. It’s still unknown where Vinland Saga: Season 3 will air internationally, but these are the services to look out for.
