The Last Kingdom: Season 6 – Everything You Should Know

Uhtred's returning for one final showdown

Alexander Dreymon as Uhtred
The Last Kingdom

Where Vikings excelled at the representation of the Norse folk’s struggle against the English, The Last Kingdom won the hearts of many with its intriguing take focussed mainly on the civil wars within England during the 9th century and onwards. But as we’ve come to learn, all good things must come to an end, and that’s exactly what happened to the fan-favorite series when the fifth season was announced to be the final one.

Now onto the more pressing question at hand, is there going to be a The Last Kingdom: Season 6? Unfortunately, as far as what the official word is, the series won’t be returning for a sixth season, although, the good news is that this isn’t the end of the road for Uhtred of Bebbanburg. Uhtred will actually be coming back for one final stand in a feature film, so if that has piqued your interest, here’s everything we know about it so far.

When Is The Last Kingdom: Season 6 Coming Out?

The Last Kingdom: Season 6 hasn’t been announced to be in development, so as far as anyone can tell, there’s no release date planned for it. On the bright side, a movie continuation titled The Last Kingdom: Seven Kings Must Die is scheduled to be released on April 14th, 2023.

The Last Kingdom: Seven Kings Must Die is reportedly going to be an epilogue for the show, and it’ll tie up every loose end and give the characters a proper send-off. Although, there’s a small likelihood that the movie could pave way for a potential storyline in the future. It doesn’t mean the show could be back next year, but a revival in the future wouldn’t seem unfathomable.

As for where it’ll be available, if there ever is a The Last Kingdom: Season 6, it’ll stream only on Netflix since the service has exclusivity for the series. The show used to air on BBC, but from the third season onwards, Netflix became its new home.

Whether The Last Kingdom: Season 6 happens or not, Uthred of Bebbanburg is returning for a new showdown across England regardless. The movie releases on Netflix soon, so anybody who’s craving some medieval action won’t have to wait that long now.

Who Is In The Cast of The Last Kingdom: Season 6?

As the current impression is that there will be no The Last Kingdom: Season 6, there’s practically nobody who’s reprising their roles. As for the movie, Seven Kings Must Die, a few cast members have been revealed.

If this one isn’t obvious already, then Alexander Dreymon is back to play as Uhtred in a battle against anyone who opposes a unified England. Where there’s Uhtred, Finan has also got to be present, so you’ll get to see Mark Rowley back in action as well.

Not much about the story of the feature film is known yet, but the official synopsis states that King Edward is dead, and different factions want their hands on the crown. Edward’s death confirms that Timothy Innes will also be returning to the cast, while other characters like Father Beocca (Sam Hart) and Brida (Emily Cox), who are already dead, might just make an appearance to haunt Uhtred or even help him. In any case, the movie could easily set up a potential The Last Kingdom: Season 6, but that’s up to the fates to decide.
