There have been many reasons floating around to as why Naughty Dog has decided to delay the the release for Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End. One of the stand out reasons is so that the ending can be deserving of the franchise’s unfortunate end.

The game’s director, Neil Druckmann, explained in a recent interview with OPM that he wants Uncharted 4 to finish with “a bang”, claiming that the ending needed “quite a bit of work”. If released on its initial date of Fall 2015, it would have hindered the company’s ambition for the ending.

“Even when I’m describing the ending, it’s a pretty… Well, I guess this is a little bit of a spoil… Nah, I’m not going to say it! But there is something that happens that requires quite a bit of work for what we want it to do,” Druckmann said. “And again, we would have had to reduce that scope and reduce that ambition to meet that [original] deadline.”

“It was going to disappoint [fans] to push this thing back,” he continued. “But this is the last chapter for Nathan Drake, so let’s give ourselves as much time as possible and go all-out for this series.”

Naturally, fans will be disappointed by the delay, but it may mean the game will get its end that it truly deserves, which is a small cost to pay for such a prestigious series of games. I mean, we all remember the awful ending to Mass Effect 3 which ended up having an alternate ending via DLC because it was that bad.
