Top 10 Most Tearjerking Films for Guys

glass case of emotion

Don’t scrunch up your face, subconsciously flex your biceps and light up 10 cigars to smoke all at once after reading the title. It’s okay, guy. You can feels. This is a safe place.

Society tells us that we as men shouldn’t show emotion and that we should be heartless, rugby-loving beasts who grimace at the very thought of some liquid escaping our eye. The makers of these following tearjerking films say a confident “bollocks to that” as they subject guys to a whirlwind of emotions, whether they be because of toys, Romans or midget adventurers.

10. (500) Days of Summer

If you’ve ever been broken up with by a girl who you thought was really neat but evidently didn’t think the same, the trials of Tom in (500) Days of Summer will be all to easy to relate to and cry about whilst listening to Sinead O’Connor.

The real agony for guys comes during the expectation/reality sequence: something which no doubt a lot of us have experienced when it comes to our romantic hopes and dreams. It’s heartbreaking to see Tom believe that he’ll be able to patch things up with Summer and it doesn’t get any easier the more you watch it.

It reinvented the genre and brought the spotlight back on the awesome JGL who has since gone on to direct his own film which he cast Scarlett Johansson in so that he could kiss her loads. The evil genius.

9. The Lord of the Rings: Return of the King

In the myriad of endings that weren’t really endings in Return of the King, there’s one part which destroys any man that isn’t above 6ft tall.

The hobbits in the Fellowship were subjected to the worst treatment of all. After paralysis, beatings and being speared by cave trolls, you might want to call it a day and make your way back to The Shire. Not Frodo, Sam, Merry and Pippin though as the first two managed to get all the way to Mount Doom and cast the ring into the fires, ending the war and saving the day.

A hero’s welcome is much deserved and a sign of respect from all Isengardians as they bow to honour the hobbits leaves plenty of men punching beer cans to hold back the tears.
