Tonikaku Kawaii, also known as Tonikawa and Tonikawa: Over the Moon With You, is a romance anime that captured the hearts of anime fans back in late 2020. Most romance anime end with the couple kissing or going on a date, then leave the rest of the story to the fans’ imagination. That’s not the case with Tonikawa. In literally the first episode, Nasa Yuzaki meets a stranger named Tsukasa Tuskuyomi and marries her.
This weird, yet somehow cute, take on the genre has been a welcome addition to the anime community. And now, it’s getting a second season. Read on and find out when Tonikawa: Season 2 is releasing and what the plot could be about.
When Is Tonikawa: Season 2 Being Released?
UPDATE: Crunchyroll has confirmed that Tonikawa: Season 2 will air on April 7, 2023.
It’s been confirmed on the AnimeJapan website, a website about anime conventions, that Tonikawa: Season 2 is coming out sometime in April 2023. We will update this with the exact release date once we have it.
The show will have a pre-broadcast stage event on March 25th, where more Tonikawa announcements are likely going to be made. The Japanese voice actors of Nasa and Tsukasa will also attend the event.
What Is Tonikawa: Season 2 About?
Predicting Tonikawa: Season 2’s plot is a little trickier than with other anime. Usually, you’d just have to look at the manga and see where the last season ended. But with Tonikawa, the anime adapted the first 40 chapters before skipping to chapters 80, 88, and 89 on the season finale.
They could either go back to the skipped chapters which will cover how they get their cat, Toast, who was seen in the trailer. They will also meet Nasa’s cousin Ginga Onimaru. A wannabe tough guy who wants proof that the couple loves each other.
They could also continue where they left off and proceed to chapters 90 and onwards. In which case they will go camping in the mountains and spend time with their friends.
Or, most likely, Season 2 will do a little bit of both.
If you want to learn more about Tsukasa’s mysterious past, you’ll have to wait a little longer. The manga dives into it, but it’s still far off from the anime’s current events. So, she’ll stay a mystery unless the anime decides to skip a huge chunk of the manga again,
Which Studio Is Making Tonikawa: Season 2?
If you loved the first season of Tonikawa, you’ll be glad to know that the same production and animation teams will be making Tonikawa: Season 2. Shogakukan-Shueisha Productions, Warner Bros. Japan, KlockWorx, and Shogakukan will be co-producing the show, while Seven Arcs will be animating it.
In addition to all this, the Crunchyroll SC Anime Fund has also funded the first season’s production. So, they might also do so the same for the second season.
