THQ Nordic Dampen TimeSplitters 2 Rumours After Spellforce 3 Easter Egg

It's not quite time to split. Not yet.

Alright, so this one has been a bit of an ongoing rollercoaster for the past day or so, so if you’ve not been caught up, here’s everything you need to know. Over the weekend, an easter egg was spotted in the strategy game SpellForce 3: Fallen God that referenced a remaster for a TimeSplitters 2 Remake. You can check out the video at the top of the page.

Wait, What Was The Easter Egg Specifically?

In SpellForce 3, there was an in-game item called “TimeSplitters 2 Remake”, with an item description that reads (when translated from French): “It’s finally coming! The iconic shooter, which has stood the test of time to join the era of modern games.” The item is sold by an in-game vendor who also sells items referencing Biomutant and SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom.

So What Does This Mean?

Right now, it means nothing. People were quick to leap to the assumption that this item was confirmation that THQ Nordic are working on a TS2 Remake, but THQ Nordic have today issued a statement to VGC, saying that: “The intention behind those easter eggs was pure fun. When Koch Media and Deep Silver are ready to talk about TimeSplitters, they will make sure to get heard.”

The Embracer Group umbrella, which owns THQ Nordic, Koch Media and Deep Silver, does have the rights to the TimeSplitters franchise, with Koch Media specifically holding the rights to the license. SpellForce 3, meanwhile, was published by THQ, so it’s a different part of the overall umbrella. It’s a lot, but that last sentence in THQ Nordic’s statement should be enough to satiate fans for a while yet.
