It’s still hard to believe years later that a 2000s classic show like The Vampire Diaries has concluded. Yes, the show was pretty much what you’d call a typical teenage vampire drama but you can’t deny it had some terrific lore surrounding it, so terrific in fact that there just had to be multiple spinoffs. Sadly, they’ve come to an end too, and that has got many of us wondering whether revisiting the universe is a possibility, specifically in the form of The Vampire Diaries: Season 9.
Many TV shows that finished long ago have recently been revived, some of the most famous ones in recent times include Dexter: New Blood, Samurai Jack, and Twin Peaks. A similar case could present itself again and lead to the development of The Vampire Diaries: Season 9. The series managed to establish a cult following during its run, and while ratings did plummet near the series finale, fans seem to have had enough of a break. A ninth season may just happen, and if you’re looking to hear all about it, then here’s everything you should know.
When Is The Vampire Diaries: Season 9 Coming Out?
There is no release date for The Vampire Diaries: Season 9 at the moment. The eighth season was announced to be the series finale by The CW, and ever since then, we haven’t heard a whisper about a renewal.
It can be said with confidence that The Vampire Diaries is over for now. Its two spin-off shows, The Originals and Legacies, both have ended as well, so at the moment this vampire-verse seems to be sleeping in its coffin. A ninth season looks unlikely to ever be made, but a revival of some sort or a sequel series could definitely be greenlit in the years to come.
Legacies: Season 5 was reportedly canceled after poor series reception, so Warner Bros. and The CW wouldn’t exactly consider green lighting The Vampire Diaries: Season 9 right now. That said, it’s reasonable to assume there could be a revival down the line if demand for the franchise becomes a little more noticeable.
Who Is In The Cast of The Vampire Diaries: Season 9?
Here’s a doozy, let’s talk about the cast of The Vampire Diaries: Season 9. Practically every lead character died by the end of the series. Stefan and Katherine were among the permanent deaths of the series finale, while Elena and Damon were shown to have found peace after dying due to old age years later.
If The Vampire Diaries: Season 9 is ever made, we could see a potential story set between the years following the finale up to the point where Damon and Elena died. That would also mean that both Ian Somerhalder and Nina Dobrev will reprise their roles. Paul Wesley may return as well if the writers choose to spiritually include him in the show, but that would be a little contradictory to the emotions the finale left us with, so you shouldn’t get too excited.
Candice King and Kat Graham on the other hand would surely be back to portray Caroline Forbes and Bonnie Bennett respectively since both their characters were very much alive when the series ended. Contrary to this, if the show returns with a sequel plot set after Damon and Elena’s deaths, then we’ll likely be seeing never-before-seen characters played by a completely new cast. Either way, as long as fans get to see more from the Vampire Diaries universe, they’re on board.
