After the extremely disappointing finale of the cult-classic TV series Dexter, fans weren’t able to forgive the creators for the direction they’d taken the show. Huge petitions for a continuation were on the rise, and somehow 8 years later, Showtime finally commissioned Dexter: New Blood in hopes that it’ll redeem the tragic series finale.

The sequel’s ending was far worse, and now we’re at point A once again, but in an unexpected twist of fate, Showtime has confirmed that Dexter: New Blood: Season 2 is in the works, and that’s just the tip of the iceberg. There’s a lot of news about the future of the franchise, and it’s overwhelmingly positive, so here’s everything you should know about the upcoming projects.

When Is Dexter: New Blood: Season 2 Coming Out?

Dexter: New Blood: Season 2 is most definitely in development, but that’s all production has revealed for now. The show doesn’t officially have a release date yet, although, if guesses are welcome, then late 2024 to late 2025 looks like a promising window.

Moving onto the other announcements, Showtime has also given the green-light on Dexter: Origins, a prequel series focusing on the roots of everybody’s favorite serial killer, Dexter Morgan. If you thought that was it, well, there’s reportedly a spin-off series about the “Trinity Killer” on the table as well. The infamous antagonist of the acclaimed fourth season might get a show about his origins too.

Most of the details for Dexter: New Blood: Season 2 are shrouded in mystery, but some direction of the story was provided. In the aftermath of the events in Iron Lake, Harrison finds himself in New York where he battles his own urges and contemplates whether he’ll turn out like his father.

We’ve got the prequel series, Dexter: New Blood: Season 2, and even a Trinity Killer spin-off being considered, so it’s safe to say the franchise is undergoing heavy expansion. Whether the franchise is back on a recurring basis still remains unclear, but let’s wait till the upcoming shows start airing before assuming what’s what.

Who Is In The Cast of Dexter: New Blood: Season 2?

Much about Dexter: New Blood: Season 2 is being kept under wraps, and it’s probably only in pre-production, so we can’t be sure who’s in the cast yet. But seeing as the continuation will center on Harrison, Jack Alcott should be back to portray Dexter’s only child.

Dexter was shot dead at the end of the first season, at least that’s the impression anyways. If he really is dead, it’s possible that Michael C. Hall could reprise his role as Dexter Morgan as a voice inside Harrison’s head, but on the off chance that he’s still alive, then things will get quite fun.

Julia Jones‘ character Angela Bishop was a major player in Dexter: New Blood: Season 1, and by the end of it, she had developed a mother-like connection with Harrison, so she could be seen returning in the sequel. The same also goes for her daughter, and Harrison’s friend, Audrey Bishop, played by Johnny Sequoyah.

In any case, there’s a lot of potential in the Dexter-verse, and Showtime is clearly aware of that. Hopefully, Dexter: New Blood: Season 2 marks only the beginning of another great thriller series that’ll be remembered for the ages.
