At first glance, you might think that The Irregular At Magic High School is another isekai anime. The show borrows a lot of tropes and plot lines from that genre, but it isn’t an isekai. The story is about a futuristic Japan that has discovered magic and integrated it into its school curriculums. Enter the siblings, Tatsuya and Miyuki Shiba.
Miyuki turns out to be a magical prodigy. However, Tatsuya lacks magical prowess and has to rely on his smarts and technical know-how instead. This makes him The Irregular At Magic High School. Season 2 ended with them moving up to their second year. Can’t wait for the next installment? Here’s what you should know about The Irregular At Magic High School: Season 3.
When Is The Irregular At Magic High School: Season 3 Being Released?
The Irregular At Magic High School: Season 3 has not yet received a release date. After its announcement on January 1, 2022, the producers have hardly publicized any new information regarding Season 3.
However, they have stated that more information about Season 3 will be announced at the Dengeki Bunko Online Summer Festival 2023 on July 15, 2023. Chances are, they’re planning to announce the release date of The Irregular At Magic High School: Season 3 there.
What Is The Irregular At Magic High School: Season 3 About?
The anime is based on the light novels. Even knowing that, it’s still not easy figuring out how The Irregular At Magic High School: Season 3 will go. The anime skipped a lot from the source material, even by anime standards. Entire volumes, namely Volumes 5 and 8, were skipped. Not only that, but the order of events was also altered. The movie and specials occur sometime elsewhere in the light novels.
They might simply continue where Season 2 ended though, which takes place at Volume 12 of the light novels. If that’s the case, here’s what you can expect from the plot.
Tatsuya and Miyuki Shiba have finally advanced to the second year. Because of the events and Tatsuya’s accomplishments in the last year, a new Magical Engineering Course was established. But just when Tatsuya thought he would finally fit in, three new elite students have come to cause trouble.
Which Studio Is Making The Irregular At Magic High School: Season 3?
The production and animation responsibilities for the series have switched hands numerous times throughout its run. Aniplex, Square Enix, Movic, and ASCII Media Works were the co-producers for Season 1, with Madhouse as the animation studio. For Season 2, however, the co-producers were Aniplex, Square Enix, Movic, Studio Mausu, Straight Edge, and Kadokawa, with 8bit as the animation studio.
The movies and specials also each had different sets of producers, but were all animated by 8bit.
As for the Honour Student spin-off series, it was produced by Aniplex and animated by Connect.
The only producer company that had a hand in all these is Aniplex. It’s obvious that they’ll still be producing Season 3, but the co-producers are up in the air for now.
Animation-wise, the series seems to have switched to 8bit for the most part, except for the spin-off series. 8bit is probably going to animate The Irregular At Magic High School: Season 3, but that’s just a guess.
