Bethesda have made no secret about the fact that their space-faring RPG Starfield is taking a lot of inspiration from NASA technology, so it’s definitely no suprise to see NASA tech and history actually featured within Starfield. One piece of real-life technology that’s available for players to find within the world of Starfield is the Mars Opportunity Rover, but if you don’t know where you’re supposed to look, you might not be able to find it. This is how you can stumble on the Mars Opportunity Rover when playing Starfield.
Starfield Mars Opportunity Rover Explained
While it might be possible to stumble onto the Mars Opportunity Rover just by dropping onto the right spot on Mars, the easiest way to guarantee that you’ll find it is during the Unearthed Main Quest mission. During the course of that mission, you’ll travel to an abandoned NASA facility on Earth to learn more about the artifacts and other pretty big revelations regarding the story.
Once you’ve entered the facility and made your way through the various room, you’ll eventually enter a large room that functions as a museum of sorts for various NASA related projects. One display on the right hand side of the room shows the Mars Opportunity Rover, and if you interact with the tablet in front of the display, you’ll unlock a new Activity to find the real rover on the surface of Mars.
After completing the Unearthed quest, you’ll be given the chance to explore the Settled Systems once again. From here, head to the Starmap, hover over Mars in the Sol System and find the landing spot called Mars Opportunity Rover. Land at that site, and you should spawn pretty close to the Rover itself. Here, you’ll find a snowglobe, similar to the one that can be found at the London landmark, and you’ll receive a small boost in EXP. It doesn’t serve much of a purpose beyond that, but it’s a fun little discovery nonetheless.
Starfield is available now on PC and Xbox Series X & S.
