Star Wars: Episode IX to Release in May 2019

Disney and Lucasfilm have just announced the release date for the as-yet-untitled ninth instalment in the Star Wars movie series.

Star Wars: Episode IX is set to release on May 24, 2019. It will be directed by Colin Trevorrow, who you may know from his directing work on Jurassic World and The Book of Henry.

A May release was unprecedented, considering that The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi have December releases, just as last year’s Rogue One: A Star Wars Story did, but the Han Solo spinoff movie is also slated for a May release next year, planning to release on May 25th 2018.

Episode IX will follow the unreleased The Last Jedi, which recently received a badass trailer at the Star Wars Celebration event in Orlando, Florida. We also recently wrote a piece about five things we already know will happen in Episode VIII.
