Those who are concerned about the potential backwards compatibility functions of the upcoming PS5 should be happy with this news. Sony confirmed during a Q&A session that PS5 players will still be able to play games with PS4 players, so you should still be able to join in on those weekly Apex Legends sessions even if you upgrade to the next generation.

This news forms part of Sony’s initiative to make the next generation “seamless”. Vice President John Kodera himself was quick to point out the importance of cross-generation play, allowing the community to enjoy video games together.

There’s been plenty of details confirmed about the next generation of Sony consoles already, with highly improved loading times being one of the biggest selling points so far. Even EA have been getting in on the action, showcasing the potential of the next generation of the Frostbite engine. Are you excited about the future of video games? Sound off in the comments.
