Sons of the Forest doesn’t have the smoothest control scheme in the world, with it being quite clunky to equip multiple things. If you just want to have nothing in your hands, there is an easy way to do so.
To unequip items in Sons of the Forest, just press G (credit to silverindisguise). You will still need to press the button you initially pressed to equip it put away things like your book, map, etc. So to put your map away, press M.
