Single of the Week: Lupe Fiasco – Kneelin’ on Needles

In February, Lupe Fiasco dropped Drogas Light, his first full album since 2015’s seminal Tetsuo & Youth. A few weeks ago, he teased Drogas Wave, which is thought to be a direct follow up. Two studio albums in the same year? You do spoil us, Lupe. Now, we’ve been granted access to what appears to be the leading track – ‘Kneelin’ on Needles’.

It’s a hefty, politically charged attack with lyrics which, given the reference to Kendrick Lamar’s new track, ‘Humble’, can only have been recorded within the past few days. It takes aim at Trump, defends Colin Kaepernik and conjures images of outer space. So far, so Lupe, but TEK.LUN’s production is rock solid and his flow as is on point as ever.

How do we know this will appear on Drogas Wave? Well, the number 7 image that the track comes bundled with on Soundcloud seems fairly clear cut, as it’ll be his seventh LP. Any further news about Drogas Wave is still speculative, it could be months before we get it, but this is a hell of an intro.
