Wow, time really goes by fast. It only feels like, oh, 13 years ago that we had a new Grand Theft Auto game. While there will be no real midnight launches due to a lack of physical disc, there will still be millions of people eager to play GTA 6 as soon as possible.
Grand Theft Auto 6 launches on 19 November 2026 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series Z & S. Rockstar has confirmed when pre-loading begins, but it has not yet published a precise worldwide gameplay unlock schedule, but the rumour is that it will be midnight in your specific region. So, you may still be able to pull off the New Zealand trick.
When can you pre-load GTA 6?
Pre-loading begins at local midnight on 12 November 2026. Digital pre-orders can download from that point, while physical buyers can pre-load after receiving and redeeming the download code inside the retail box.
The boxed version contains no disc, and retailer delivery or collection is expected to begin from 12 November. Receiving a code on that date does not provide early access; it only lets the console download the game before launch. You may need that extra week if your internet isn’t great.
Does GTA 6 unlock at midnight on 19 November?
Yes. Check out the store listing for GTA 6 and you will note that the game is currently set to come out at midnight in your timezone.
We can predict with some certainty that millions of players downloading the game at the stroke of midnight might cause some issues. Make sure you pre-load to avoid this.
What should UK players expect?
The confirmed UK date is Thursday, 19 November 2026 at midnight.
Pre-load as soon as your copy becomes eligible, leave room for any launch update and use the countdown shown on your own console nearer release. That timer will be more useful than converting an unofficial American time and discovering you have booked the wrong portion of Thursday off. Or the whole month.
