SINGLE PREMIERE: West Of The Sun – ‘Trip On A Turntable’

West of the Sun

Say what you want about Cultured Vultures, but you have to give us credit where bringing fresh music to your earholes is concerned. Hot off the presses comes the dreamy ‘Trip On A Turntable’ from London-based ragamuffins West of the Sun.

Whether it’s my ears deceiving me or it’s just the music itself putting me in some form of weird trance, this is excellent, mature stuff from such a burgeoning band. It’s rock through and through, sounding like if The Last Shadow Puppets and Richard Ashcroft met at a Metallica gig, particularly during their S&M days.

“Musically, it’s certainly the ‘heaviest’ track we’ve done so far and feels like a real fresh approach and departure from the psychedelic pop sound I suppose people would usually associate us with. We wanted to lead this track with drums and bass – really push them to the front of the mix and not concentrate so much on the intricacy of the guitar parts and vocal harmonies.”

Listen to it and then tell your friends to do the same so you can all bask in the glory of your coolness when these guys inevitably start making waves after ‘Trip on a Turntable’ is officially released on June 17th. Keen on their sound? Here’s where they’re playing soon:

18th June – Soundhouse, Leicester, UK
2nd July – The Borderline, London, UK
