Rust’s New Patch Changes Turrets & Prepares For Vehicles

Rust is about to majorly change.

Rust Turrets

Rust’s big February 2020 update is inbound, and it’s fair to say that it’s going to shake things up a lot, as well as point towards the future.

Turrets will be getting a major rework, allowing players to insert practically any projectile weapon they see fit with the downside that they will need to be reloaded. The HQM cost of the turret will be reduced with there now being no weapon that comes up with the item. Players will need to ensure the turret is also loaded up with the respective ammo.

I can’t wait to watch some weird clans try and repel hordes of Nakeds with an array of Eokas.

Here’s a trailer for the changes to Turrets.

The next biggest change is more of a preparatory tweak, but a significant sign of things to come. The algorithms for roads have been changed to create a giant ring road that stretches around the Rust island with specific monuments, such as Gas Station, now moved to fit along it.

This is to accommodate for vehicles, a long in-the-making addition to Rust that has been requested by the community for a long time now. These roads will be two lanes wide to allow for the upcoming update, which we don’t yet have a concrete release date for. As a result of the inbound cars, players will no longer be able to build on roads.

It’s a pretty big update in general with hit detection getting optimised, MIDI pedal support for the Instruments DLC, deeper info on the life you lived before you (inevitably) died, as well as buffs to Horse Armor because not enough people appreciated the majestic beasts and they weren’t getting properly cared for. Finally, some protection when I build myself a peaceful farm.

There’s plenty more detail over on the official blog for Rust, so be sure to dive deep into what’s changed.

Rust is available now for PC with a console version due sometime this year. In Rust, players spawn naked on the beach and must find food and water. What they do from there, whether it’s make new friends, destroy everyone, or get a band together is completely up to them.
