Rust PS4 & Xbox One: How To Use Voice Chat

Speaking nonsense.

RUST
RUST Voice Chat

Rust is a game that lives and dies by its interactions with other players. Whether you’re greeting someone for the first time or are playing around, speaking to other maniacs is what makes Rust such a unique experience. How do you use voice chat in Rust on PS4 and Xbox One, though?

On PS4/PS5, you have to either press or hold down the middle button to activate Rust voice chat. On Xbox, it’s the same but for the change view button instead. When the mic symbol at the top of your screen is highlighted green, that means you are talking to other players.

You cannot remap the voice chat input as of this writing. If you’re playing on PS5, don’t forget to check your mic input and that it’s not set to your DualSense.

Why Isn’t Rust Voice Chat Working?

If you’re reading this during the pre-order beta, voice chat is not available due to technical issues. As an alternative, you can press the right stick to select from a selection of lines, which includes greetings and requests for resources. If you make new friends, you can make a party on your console as long as it’s not a cross-play server.

If you’re otherwise still running into issues, make sure you check your mic input on your respective console and also that there are no known issues on the official Rust Discord server.
