Rockstar’s Red Dead Teasing Has Me Excited

Red Dead

With Rockstar heavily teasing on social media in the last few days, I’ve been getting as excited as Ted Bundy in a mortuary at the thought of a new Red Dead game. For gamers, pre-ordering any upcoming, heavily hyped title is always a risk. For me, there are three categories for new releases:

Firstly, there are annual release games: FIFA, the WWE games, NHL and so on – games that are , for the most part, the same every year. You know what you’re getting with these – they’re like your uncle at a Christmas party – every year, he changes a little but his style and repertoire of jokes stay basically the same.

Secondly, there are the surefire winners – games you just know will be good. In these, you have the GTA games, Gears of War, Uncharted and Zelda. You’re well aware that these games will be near flawless, so much so that you don’t need to even need to read the reviews, it’ll be money well spent, and contribute to hundreds of hours of quality you time.

Trevor GTA V

And lastly, there are the games that you really need to do some homework on before making a purchase – the Resident Evil series, for example, which are incredibly hit and miss, whilst games such as No Man’s Sky which promised so much, but were the digital equivalent of buying a Monopoly set and getting home to discover the box contained only the board and the little car.

Personally, I think that Red Dead will fall in as one of the “surefire” games. Yes, I am very biased on this due to how much I absolutely adored the last installment, but I’ll happily pre-order this game with no hesitations.

Red Dead Redemption 2

Given what Rockstar have released so far, I expect it to be a prequel featuring Williamson’s gang from the previous game. Given the setting for Redemption was 1911, I would think that having the game set any later would risk losing the feel of the Old West, whilst the ability to switch between characters, a feature which greatly enhanced the storyline in GTA V, will most likely see a return in the new Red Dead game. The single picture suggests there will be 7 characters in the game – how many of those will be playable is difficult to say but I’d be very surprised if it were less than 3.

The leaked map looks, let’s be honest, freakin’ huge. Whilst it may not reach the scope of the map size in, say, Just Cause 3, it will no doubt provide a huge, functioning world with a stunning Western backdrop that will provide hours of riding into the sunset.

As of yet, there’s no official release date or even the hint of one, however great things take time and I expect this to be a highly polished title and have the saddles and spurs to match its price tag.
