Rainbow Six Siege 2.1.1. Updates Brings Loot Boxes to the Game

Rainbow Six Siege, probably one of the best examples of buffing a rough diamond in gaming, is getting an update today that will introduce the previously announced loot boxes to the game.

Rolling out throughout the day, the 2.1.1. patch will add “Alpha Packs” that will be loaded with cosmetic items and Legendary items, though you will probably have to play over 4000 hours to stumble across one in the luck-based system.

The update will roll out on PS4, Xbox One, and PC in a staggered release, Ubisoft announced:

“Alpha Packs are designed as a way to give you free cosmetics, just for playing the game! Arriving in a staggered release, Alpha Packs will introduce a chance-based loot system that will contain many past cosmetics (like the Black Ice skins), as well as exclusive Legendary tier items that you will only be able to get in Alpha Packs.

“We will be staggering their activation across every platform in an effort to ensure the most stable deployment possible. We understand this may be frustrating for some, but it is imperative that we do not impact performance.”

Players will get one free box once the update has landed with more able to be unlocked just from playing the game.

Rainbow Six Siege is currently in the midst of its second year with plenty of content still to look forward to. The game may never receive new modes, but it does what it does very well, so there’s no need to add to a winning recipe. If you’re new to the game, check out our basic tips for beginners.
