Q&A with Rob of Golf Death + New Range

Do you ever come across a clothing brand and think: “Yes. I will wear this forever. I want their clothes to be my friends.”? Well, if you’re yet to check out the excellent Golf Death, prepare to meet your new best mate.

Golf Death

By offering slick, high quality designs that have a distinctive and some would say demented edge, Golf Death easily distinguish themselves from a very crowded pack. There aren’t many streetwear companies that can market flamingos to men and have it be one of their most successful products but that’s where Golf Death are a cut above.

We managed to get our hands on the new range and we have to say that the Bigfoot design is our personal favourite. CV talked to founder of Golf Death, Rob, to ask how the rascal is doing and discuss the new range which you can see below.

Q&A with Rob of Golf Death

Golf Death

1. Hey Rob, how are you doing?

Good thanks, busy working on New designs, photography, video lookbooks and other various projects. As well as watching episodes of Game Of Thrones, Trailer Park Boys and most recent discovery, Adventure Time.

2. Tell us a little bit about the background of Golf Death.

About seven years ago, while at Uni in Leeds, me and Laura (now my fiancée) were sat watching TV and some American fashion programme came on. This dude bound onto the screen with huge silver hair, dressed in golf gear with skulls on. He was telling everyone how to dress, and I said “look at old Golf Death, he can talk!” So for a while after that Golf Death was a personal joke, but then when I started drawing, it’s what I named the Facebook page – about 4 years ago.

3. Your designs are always a little pop culture on PCP. Where do you get the crazy inspiration from?

Pop culture on PCP hahaha, yep that sums them up quite well to be fair. Ive always had a vivid imagination, as a kid I would make my own N64 characters and packaging. In the main I would say im influenced by comedies like Alan Partridge, The League of Gentlemen and cartoons like The Simpsons, South Park and Ren & Stimpy. Often though I’ll be driving and ideas and images pop into my head, which will then lead to a doodle session on a bunch of old receipts which I’ll then develop at home.

4. Is there one design you’ve produced that you think has taken your output to another level?

Yeah, I would say the Bigfoot Tee from the new range. Until now I’d only considered screen printing as a method of printing. Once I discovered sublimation printing it opened up the flood gates to endless design ideas, pattens and colours. We are also working on a cut and sew full print tshirt at the moment which is unlike any of our others. We had the sample back 4 months ago and the reaction was great so now were just perfecting it before we go ahead.

5. If you could collaborate with any artist on a design, who would it be?

It would definitely be Derek Riggs, the guy who does all the Iron Maiden art work. I love the theatrical element to his work, the dark skies, shadows and characters. I also have a great amount of respect and appreciation for the guy as the amount of hours they must have taken to produce would be quite immense!

6. What does the future hold for Golf Death?

Well were hoping to get in a few more stores this year, making our products more readily available and accessible to all members of the public. We’re also looking into moving into a bigger studio, as we’ve massively out grown our current one. We are currently expanding our product range and bringing in some cool accessories. We are constantly pushing ourselfs to create original pieces, using different methods.

7. And finally, who would win in a bare knuckle boxing match between Postman Pat and Fireman Sam?

Postman Pat because dealing with paper cuts day in day out must take some stamina, plus his cat would probably get involved and give fireman Sam a good old slashing.
