PS4 Exclusive Dreams Enters Early Access Today

It's a dream come true.

If you have too many ideas but not the right tools to bring them to life, today is your lucky day: the PS4 exclusive Dreams is out now in Early Access.

The first first-party Sony game to not launch complete since the start of the PS4, Dreams has been long in the making by Media Molecule. When you see the ambition on display here, it’s easy to see why it’s taken a few years to see the light of day.

Dreams allows you to build pretty much anything you want, which includes homages to other games or even your own brand new thing. I recall playing a neat little FPS and then a P.T. remake during the game’s beta stages and loving it.

It’s entering Early Access so that Media Molecule can continue to tune and scale the game as it progresses. They’ve said the progress and creations should carry over to the main game, but that there are also “no guarantees”. You will of course also get the full game whenever it is released. There will be a story mode for the finished product, but for now you can just create, share and play.

Do not expect any reviews of Dreams for this Early Access period; it’s very unusual to see reviews of unfinished products, Anthem not included. We will be playing and covering Dreams, but don’t wait up for a review.

Interestingly, there is also supposedly limited space for Dreams’ Early Access run, but neither Media Molecule or Sony have specified exactly how many players will be able to “get in” at this early stage.

While I wait for my Dreams download to finish, I’m looking forward to creating potato worlds and then feeling very inadequate when everyone else starts remaking Super Mario Sunshine. How about you? Are you picking up Dreams?
