The Crown Tundra is certainly the biggest expansion for Pokémon Sword & Shield to date. With a new take on Raids, a fresh spin on some classic Legendary Pokémon and a plethora of returning fan-favorites, there is no shortage of things to do. That means there’s also no shortage of secrets hidden across the glorious landscape. With few clues pointing to their existence these quests can be tough to uncover for those not looking for them, so get ready to unearth them. Some of the Pokémon you will find will not have a Pokédex entry and therefore do not count towards overall completion.

Summoning Keldeo

Keldeo Sword and Shield
Keldeo Sword and Shield

Keldeo is the mythical fourth piece to the three Legendary Swords of Justice. Until now, there has never been a way to catch your own Keldeo, so this is an exciting secret that fans will appreciate.

To summon him, you must have completed Sonia’s quest to catch Virizion, Terrakion and Cobalion by finding their footprints across the Tundra. After you have completed the quest and Sonia has left the Tundra, head to Dyna Tree Hill and find where the land meets the river around the tree.

You’ll know you’re on the right track if you spot some red footprints leading into the water and towards a small island with two trees on it. Head there and look for a small pot resting near one of the trees then set up camp with Virizion, Terrakion and Cobalion. Make some curry then break camp to find Keldeo waiting for you on the island.

Summoning Spiritomb

Another unlockable encounter on Dyna Tree Hill is for the rare Pokémon Spiritomb. Unlocking the Spiritomb encounter means finding its tombstone tucked away on a ridge off the beaten path. Once you find it you are able to interact with it, where it will tell you to “spread my voice.” The easiest way to do this is by turning on the online functions and speaking with the trainers that pop into the world.

After speaking with about 20 trainers, you can go back to the tombstone. Once you have spoken to enough people the tombstone will say “my voice has been heard.” Fly to the Dyna Tree Hill location again to reload the world and head back to the tombstone one final time to see Spiritomb waiting for you there. This quest is a fun way to use the online play in a unique and engaging way, offering a cool Pokémon as a reward.

Summoning Regigigas

Regigigas
Regigigas

With all of the legendary Giant Pokémon such as the iconic trio of Regirock, Regice and Registeel in the game, the final titan remains seemingly absent. This is surprisingly not the case.

Fly to the Watt Trader at Snowslide slope and turn around to find a raid den surrounded by four stones. To unlock this encounter, you will need all of these legendary Pokémon in your party including both Regieleki and Regidrago, which means you’ll need to find one via trade.

After doing this, interacting with the raid den will trigger a special response. Investigate it further to trigger a single-player raid against Regigigas. Be sure to have tough Pokémon on your team to quickly take out this titan, as its Slow Start ability cuts its stats for 5 turns. After this period, it turns into the strongest Pokémon in the game and even at level 100 you won’t want to face its wrath. It is a guaranteed catch, so use whatever Pokéball you see fit to catch the beast.

Adopting Fwoofy

Those who played Pokémon Sun, Moon, or their Ultra versions may remember Nebby the Cosmog. The Crown Tundra offers a similar character in the form of Fwoofy, who lives with an old woman in Freezington. Her home is easily recognizable as there is a woman with a Spheal outside of it.

If you interact with the small Pokémon she will tell you about how she found it. She also believes that Fwoofy needs a worthy trainer and wishes one would come to adopt it. After completing the main storyline of the expansion, you can return to her home and she will recognize your worth before asking if you would like to adopt it.

Pokémon Sword & Shield: The Crown Tundra is available now for Nintendo Switch.
