Pokémon Sword And Shield Now Fastest-Selling Switch Game

Record breaking.

Pokemon Sword and Shield

It’s been revealed that Pokémon Sword and Shield has sold over six million units globally in its first week on sale, making it the fastest selling Switch game in the console’s history. According to The Pokémon Company, this includes both digital and physical sales, and it doubles the sales of last year’s Pokémon Let’s Go games, which hit 3 million sales in its first week.

This opening week beats out the current record holder of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, which managed to shift 5 million copies in its first week. However, Sword and Shield haven’t become the most successful Pokémon games in the series, as the fastest selling entry is still Sun and Moon, which managed to sell an incredible 7.2 million copies in its first week.

In the UK specifically, Pokémon Sword and Shield have been incredibly successfully, claiming the first and third spots on the physical release chart for Sword and Shield respectively. Meanwhile, the Dual Edition which bundles both games together finished at a respectable seventh.
