Pokémon Scarlet and Violet has a host of new features to keep even the most seasoned veterans of the franchise entertained. One mechanic that has remained throughout the games with little variation is breeding and hatching eggs. We’ve already covered how to breed Pokémon, but if you’re wondering how to hatch the egg you’ve now found yourself with, there are a few simple steps to follow.

By breeding Pokémon, trainers can assign desired abilities and statistics. To hatch the eggs quickly and discover if your breeding has successfully transferred the desired ability to your new Pokémon, you’ll first need to equip the egg to your party and then walk around. Progress on the egg hatching can be made whether walking or travelling with your Pokémon via dashing, jumping, flying or swimming.

The length of time and steps it takes to hatch an egg varies.

The game will stop you in your tracks when the egg is ready to hatch, and an alert will pop up. You’ll see a small animation before the Pokémon is revealed and you’re then free to check its statistics, ability and train it if you wish.

With version-exclusive Pokémon able to be bred, you can use this method to trade with your friends on other platforms to create the Pokédex, too.

If you need more guidance in Scarlet and Violet, here’s where you can get your hands on some Shiny Stones, as well as how you change your drip.
