Pokémon GO & Pokémon Snap Celebration Event – What You Should Know

GO take some snaps.

Pokemon Go Snap Event
Pokemon Go Snap Event

With the release of New Pokémon Snap just a couple of days away, Niantic have decided to celebrate with an in-game event in Pokémon GO. To celebrate, they’ll be different Pokémon spawning in the wild and in raids, as well as bonus Research tasks, a special newly released shiny Pokémon and a treat for your avatar.

When Does The Event Begin And End?

The event will begin on April 29th at 10am, so at this time the wild spawns will change, the Timed Research will trigger, and any Raid eggs hatching after this time will be the new Raid Bosses. The event will finish on May 2nd at 8pm.

Pokémon Spawns

Taking inspiration from New Pokémon Snap and the various landscapes you’ll encounter in the Letal region, you’ll be seeing Pokémon in Pokémon Go that frequent the deserts, jungles and underwater. This will include Lotad (which can be shiny), as well as Cacnea and Ducklett. This is a great opportunity to work on your Grass, Water and Ground catch badges if you don’t already have the 2500 Pokémon caught for each type.

Pokémon Raids

In a similar theme, the Pokémon featured in raids will be ones from the same landscapes, including Vaporeon, Meganium and Trapinch (the latter of which has a shiny chance as well). This is a good chance to work on some of your raid badges, including the Rising Star badge (the Platinum badge of which requires you to raid 150 unique Pokémon) as well as the Champion badge, which tasks you to do 2000 raids for the Platinum.

Shiny Smeargle

The biggest selling point of the event though, is the shiny release of Smeargle. Currently, the only way to encounter Smeargle is through an in-game snapshot of another Pokémon, and this will still be the case it seems during the event. Niantic have said that Smeargle will be appearing in these snapshots more often during the event, but haven’t said how much more, so it will be a case of taking them until no more Smeargle appear. The shiny form is obvious, with the tip of the tail orange instead of green. Once the event has finished, Smeargle will no longer be available shiny (similar to when shiny Meltan was released), so make sure to take every opportunity until the event ends.

Research Tasks

Field Research and Timed Research tasks will also be event specific, and while the rewards haven’t been revealed yet, it’s suggested that the tasks themselves will focus on taking snapshots. Make sure to familiarise yourself with the process before the event, which is easy to do, and requires you simply to look for the camera symbol on any of your pre-caught Pokémon. Other event rewards include a camera item for your avatar, which is always a nice addition for those that want to glam up their trainer.

New Pokémon Snap is a new Switch release inspired by the original 1999 Pokémon Snap, where you are able to observe Pokémon in their natural habitats, and capture their good sides. Play songs or throw fruit to get their attention, and use the best photos to fill your Pokédex.

Pokémon Go is a downloadable mobile game, where you can battle and catch Pokémon in the real world. Work together to defeat Pokémon and trade from the comfort of your own home, in a bid to catch them all.
