Peter Molyneux Wants to Make Fable 4, Forgets His Bad Reputation

Fable 2

Seemingly unaware of the reputation he carries among savvy gamers, Peter Molyneux has recently said that he wants to return to the series he started and make Fable 4.

Molyneux has been busy on other projects, most notably The Trail, a decent if unspectacular mobile game. After the less than warm reception he receives when mentioned in passing conversation, owing a lot to his sometimes misleading PR talk and regular overpromising, it would be a suprise to see him take the reins of another AAA.

Speaking to OXM, Molyneux said:

“It’s crazy that Fable IV isn’t being made. I would love to do Fable IV, and the studio tried to do it. You’d have to get the original team back together though.”

In the interview, Molyneux also discusses upsetting Fable’s publisher, Microsoft, thanks to the irreverent British humour and sexy sexness.

“I think it was the sense of humour. You know the British, slightly politically incorrect sense of humour, especially with Fable, where we had prostitutes and same-sex marriage. Microsoft were appalled, you know, they were busily going around trying to rub all the nipples out of all the women just not to offend people.”

It may be too late for the franchise, however. The last game, Fable Legends, was acrimoniously cancelled despite being heavily into production and its developer, Lionhead, was shut down. Unless Bethesda took up the IP on a whim, it’s unlikely Fable 4 would garner much love. It’s done.
