Fable Legends Gets A Second Chance?

Fable Legends

It was recently announced that Microsoft were closing Lionhead Studios, who have been putting out Fable games on Xbox platforms and PC since 2004. Fans weren’t happy to see the end of a studio that created wonderful games brimming with personality and possibility, the community at large were disappointed by Microsoft’s decision.

The first noticeable casualty of the demise of Lionhead was Fable Legends, a free to play RPG set in the Fable universe and soon to be released on Xbox One and Windows PC. There is an active beta and the game seemed to playing well, ready for release this year. To not release a near complete game isn’t uncommon but it is always an unusual practice, as the hard work is done – especially as this was to be Free to Play. There were rumours Fable Legends simply wasn’t very good and fans of the series were unsure.

However, it does seem now that all is not lost.

Sources are reporting that Fable Legends may be passed on to an independent studio, and even that certain Lionhead employees have been asked if they want to continue working on the game. How this will work is unsure and Microsoft had only this to say;

“We aren’t sharing additional details beyond that we have ceased development on Fable Legends, and are in discussions with employees at Lionhead about our proposed closure of the studio as well.”

Will Fable Legends rise from the video game graveyard? It’s a well-known franchise with a huge fan base, so Microsoft would be remiss to scrap the game entirely. There’s some hope, it is now a case of wait and see.
