Overwatch Pays Respects to Killed Fan

Overwatch tribute

The guys behind Overwatch have always been all about the community. This gesture, even if it is just a small one, goes to show them at their best.

A day before Overwatch was to be released, Hongyu Wu, a 20-year old Chinese student, was killed when trying to apprehend a motorcycle thief on his own. During the chase, the two motorcycles collided, causing mortal injuries to the young fan. The thief was then apprehended by police, all thanks to Wu. The Guangzhou city government granted him the “Courageous Citizen” award because of his bravery.

Blizzard, after seeing this heartwarming final exchange between Wu and his friends, in which he discusses his excitement for Overwatch’s release, have decided to patch in a tribute to the hero.

To find the tribute for yourself, go to Lijiang Tower and find the Control Center. Once there, check out the astronaut suits – one has changed. As first discovered by Redditor Rebirdhk, the name “宏宇” (Hongyu) is now next to it. Behind the suit, the phrase “英雄不朽”, which means “heroes never die”, has also been added.

After his death, Wu’s friends left him some final goodbye messages:

Friend B: Hongyu. Safe journey, take care.
Friend C: :( :( That was your last message here…
Friend D: see u again
Friend E: Don’t forget your Captain America tights suit
Friend F: Thank you for spending the last year with us. I hope you find eternal happiness on the other side!

Eesh, I suddenly have water in my eyes.
