Outbreak Day Poster Suggests We’ll See Joel In The Last of Us 2 Soon

The Last of Us 2 Joel

After teasing what we should expect a few days ago, Naughty Dog have officially released all of the goodies to coincide with Outbreak Day 2018. If tradition is anything to go by, a poster may hint at the first appearance of a certain gruff Texan in The Last of Us: Part II.

Check out the poster from Mondo below, and let me know who immediately springs to mind:

The Last Of Us

A closer look:

Tlou 2

And an even closer look:

TLOU 2 Joel

The beard, the lumberjack shirt, the fact that he’s playing guitar after promising to teach Ellie it: it can only really be Joel. The wolf*, however, is a bit of a mystery, as well as what may well be fireflies flying around his head.

Historically, the posters released on Outbreak Day have hinted at what we can expect to be revealed for The Last of Us: Part II in the near future. In 2016, the poster showed Ellie’s tattooed arm before the second game was even announced. In 2017, it showed the arm of the character that would later appear in the PGW 2017 trailer, who many theorise to be Ellie’s mother.

While this poster may hint at Joel getting his turn in the spotlight soon, it’s not a given. Naughty Dog could just be playing up to people’s expectations. Even worse, it does nothing to allay the fears that he’s actually no longer with us in the second game. The next bet to find out for ourselves? Either this year’s Paris Games Week or PSX, though that has yet to be properly announced.

There’s a tonne of other stuff to celebrate Outbreak Day, but at this time of writing we’re getting a 503 message because it’s presumably overloaded with traffic.

The Last of Us: Part II is set to release exclusively on the PlayStation 4. It is the sequel to the PlayStation 3 exclusive from 2013.

*I just remembered that Ellie was called “wolf” by her assailants in the E3 2018 trailer. Interesting.
