Mortal Kombat 1 follows on from the events of Mortal Kombat 11 in a reboot/sequel kind of way, with a New Era being ushered in by Fire God Liu Kang. This new world has a lot of key differences to the Mortal Kombat many of us grew up with, but that doesn’t mean that Mortal Kombat 1 is bereft of features and neat little easter eggs from previous games.

One cool feature that has carried over from previous game is the ability to change your announcer, though in order to do so, you need to unlock that specific announcer pack. We’ve already covered how to unlock the Johnny Cage announcer pack, but there’s also the Liu Kang announcer pack, in case you’d rather hear the voice of the New Era at the start of every round. This is how you can unlock the Liu Kang announcer pack.

In order to unlock the Liu Kang announcer pack, you need to complete chapter seven of the Story Mode, which is roughly around the halfway point of the story. Obviously, we won’t give away what happens in the story, but the chapter itself follows the same routine as other NetherRealm Story Mode chapters, in that you fight a conveyor belt of characters for either tenuous or actually legitimate reasons, before moving on.

Once you’ve fought the four opponents that make up chapter seven, you’ll unlock the Liu Kang announcer pack. After that, head to the settings page, and under Video & Audio, you’ll be able to switch your announcer, which should give your fights and fatalities a little bit of added gravitas. You know, because he’s a god now and all. Of course, you should carry on playing the story after you finish chapter seven too, as you’ll also need to unlock Havik.

Mortal Kombat 1 is available now if you buy the special edition, otherwise MK1 will launch on September 19th for PC, PS5, Xbox Series X & S and Nintendo Switch.
