More Details Revealed About Halo: MCC’s PC Port

343 Industries have spoken about cross-play, Xbox Play Anywhere and more.

At the recent Halo Championship Series Invitational that took place during SXSW, 343 Industries revealed a few details about the long awaiting PC release of Halo: The Master Chief Collection, talking about plans for cross-play, Xbox Play Anywhere and the Halo Insider program.

Firstly, the Halo Insider program allows Xbox players to test future updates to the Halo: MCC, and was added last year when 343 decided to get their act together and actually fix the game. That same feature will be extended to PC players, and will allow those who sign up the ability to play the game early.

Sign-ups are available now, as you simply have to head to the Halo Insider page and link your Steam account to your Halo Waypoint account, along with providing some specs about your PC. Community Manager Brian Jarrard didn’t give a firm release date for the test or the PC launch, but said the test will be starting “sooner than people realise”, and that the PC release will be “ready when it’s ready”.

As for the potential for cross-play between Xbox and PC players, Jarrard didn’t rule out the possibility, but confirmed that it won’t be available when the PC build launches, choosing instead to focus on releasing the best possible product on PC:

“The real question on people’s mind is can I play Xbox against PC? And truth be told right now, we are really focused on making sure that we can bring these games to PC in the right way. But the team would love to hear feedback on this and as we get further down the road, it’s something I think we’re going to have to evaluate, and if it’s something that the community wants and makes sense, I think the team wants to make it happen.

Finally, Bonnie Ross, the current head of 343 Industries, addressed the question of whether or not Halo: The Master Chief Collection will support Xbox Play Anywhere, as the game predates that program:

I think one of the questions we’ve gotten is will MCC PC support Xbox Play Anywhere. And first off I wanted to say, we so appreciate all the support we’ve had from Xbox One community with MCC, and we’re obviously bringing Reach to MCC. And while MCC shipped before the XPA [program], we are exploring ways to make sure we show our appreciation and recognition for the support we’ve had from the amazing fans on MCC. And we’ll have more to announce once we get closer to launch.

So, neither a yes or a no then, but it seems like 343 Industries will find some way to reward those that have supported the game since it launched. Either way, can they just hurry up and announce the release date? Your boy needs some 4K Halo Reach in his life.
