Modern Warfare’s Warzone Battle Royale Could Be A Free-To-Play Standalone

The battle royale battle is hotting up.

Modern Warfare

Reports have emerged regarding the current worst kept secret in gaming, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare’s Warzone battle royale mode, suggesting that it could be a free-to-play standalone launching in early March.

The report comes from VGC, who have sources that have indicated that Warzone will launch within the next few weeks, with VGC stating that a likely candidate for a release date will be March 10th. They also note that marketing for the mode is set to commence this week, as Activision will be flying North American content creators out to the studio to capture footage of the mode.

VGC also note that the mode will be released as a standalone free-to-play game, with the option for players to upgrade to the full version of Modern Warfare. They say that it’s likely to share unified progression with the existing battle pass, but that’s currently unconfirmed. Ultimately, the plan appears to be to develop the battle royale as it’s own “third pillar”, alongside Call of Duty Mobile and the annual releases.

Details about the battle royale mode have already leaked ahead of time, including the game’s map and mechanics, including Respawn Tokens and the Gulag, an area where players will compete in 1v1s for a chance to return to the battlefield.
