Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite – 5 Capcom Characters We Want to See

Marvel vs Capcom

We’re just a couple of months away from the release of a game many people thought would never happen; Marvel vs Capcom: Infinite. After Capcom lost the license to create Marvel titles back in 2014, it was assumed that the answer to the question “WHEN’S MAHVEL?!” would be “never”. It feels good to be proven wrong.

Of course, no fighting game is complete without it’s cast of characters, and both companies have a huge back-catalogue to pull from. In this first article, we’re highlighting five Capcom characters we’d love to see make an appearance in Marvel vs Capcom: Infinite.

Chuck Greene

It’s fair to say that the Dead Rising franchise is now dead in the water thanks to the shitshow that was DR4. God, what a mess of a game. However, you can’t argue that the franchise has been a cornerstone of Capcom’s portfolio for the better part of a decade, and deserves to be included in what is essentially a celebration of the company’s history. So why don’t we sweep that abhorrent fourth installment under the carpet and include the protagonist from the second game, Chuck Greene? His motocross background and affinity for ridiculous combo weapons would lend itself naturally to a varied moveset. Spiked Bat for up close, Plate Launcher from afar, and maybe a level three super where he runs you over with his chainsaw bike. Sorry Frank, it’s Chuck’s turn to play.

Asura

Asura’s Wrath is like the Marmite of video games. You either love it, or you think that its existence is an affront to everything video games stand for. Personally, I really enjoyed it. The mix of third person beat ‘em ups, on-rails shooting and animated fight scenes that could put Dragonball to shame helped to create a memorable, anime-esque experience. Including Asura in MvC: Infinite might confuse the more mainstream crowds, but would be fantastic for a subsection of Capcom fans, and his abilities are practically made for a fighting game too. His penchant for punching would make him a prototypical rushdown character, but he could also fire a couple of energy shots to keep opponents honest. His supers could be his transformations, such as his Mantra form which would act in a similar way to Dante’s Devil Trigger, buffing his stats and changing the properties of certain attacks. All in all, Asura would make for a versatile inclusion to the roster.

R. Mika

As it stands right now, Marvel vs Capcom: Infinite is lacking in the grappler department. These types of characters are an essential thread of the grand tapestry that is Fighting Games. Rainbow Mika, or R. Mika for short, would fit that bill perfectly, and I’m not just saying that because I love wrestling. Her comeback in Street Fighter V saw her take the role of Zangief’s protege, utilising Irish Whip style command grabs to throw her opponent across the stage. She’d be an ideal character to trap opponents in a corner and inflict massive damage. Her EX moves even included her tag partner providing an assist, so she could even be tailored to a 2v2 format. Who wouldn’t want to see Iron Man and R. Mika hit a double suplex on Ultron?

Urien

Master of the Aegis Reflector and wearer of the finest loincloth anywhere in video games, Urien has been headbutting and Chariot Tackling his way through the Street Fighter roster for twenty years now. Since his introduction in Street Fighter III: 2nd Impact, he’s been burdened with an overwhelming thirst for power, and there’s nothing more powerful than the Infinity Gems. His projectiles and the aforementioned Aegis Reflector make him a great keepaway character, and his charge attacks allow him to both close the distance and finish combos with a devastating amount of damage. In the right hands, Urien is a force to be reckoned with, and his inclusion in Marvel vs Capcom: Infinite would be huge plus for many fans.

Gene

Gene God Hand

This is one is a personal pick, purely based on my undying love for the game God Hand. Seriously, we’re never going to see a new God Hand game (the dissolution of Clover Studios back in 2006 saw to that), but if Viewtiful Joe and Amaterasu from Okami can appear in Marvel vs Capcom 3, then why not Gene? Like Chuck Greene and Asura before him, he might not be from a fighting game but his powers are best suited for one. The combo building system from God Hand gave Gene a wide variety of attacks to utilise, which would make for some interesting target combos, whilst his right arm, the titular God Hand, is capable of some ludicrous yet powerful attacks. Again, like Asura, most casual fans won’t know who Gene is, but Marvel vs Capcom is known for some left field picks. I mean, if Phoenix Wright can appear in a fucking fighting game, why can’t Gene?

And that’s our list. Let us know your picks in the comments below, and stay tuned for part two where we’ll reveal our five picks for the Marvel roster!
