Killer7 Getting A Steam Release This Year

At a panel celebrating their 20th anniversary during MomoCon this weekend, developers Grasshopper Manufacture announced that they will be re-releasing cult classic game Killer7 on Steam later this year.

If you’re expecting a graphical overhaul however, you will go wanting. Grasshopper have confirmed to Game Informer that this will be a bit of a refresh instead, though “the game’s simple models and colors scale nicely to modern resolutions”. At the very least, the re-release will support mouse and keyboard play, which should make things easier when you’re dealing with those Heaven’s Smile bastards.

Killer7 was released in 2005 on PS2 and Gamecube, receiving the proverbial Marmite response from gamers: people either loved it or hated it. The game was co-written by Suda51 and Shinji Mikami, who’ve both gone on to create games just as weird as Killer7, which is an achievement in and of itself.

No word yet on whether or not NIS America, who are publishing this re-release, will be bringing the game to modern consoles, but if you cross your fingers hard enough, you might get lucky. That, or just tweet constantly about it. That’s my plan with Yakuza and Fist of the North Star localisations.

Will you be playing Killer7 when it launches on Steam this autumn/fall? Did you miss the boat first time around and are looking to see what all the fuss is about, or would you rather Grasshopper re-released No More Heroes? Sound off in the comments, and check out the latest trailer for fellow Capcom game Street Fighter V. It has a rather dapper Cody in it, what more do you need?
