Rebellion Unplugged, the board game division of popular developers/publishers Rebellion, have today announced that the Kickstarter for Sniper Elite: The Board Game has gone live. Yes, this is a real thing, and honestly, it looks like a lot of fun. Check out the trailer for yourselves below.

Sniper Elite: The Board Game, which is looking for £22,000 in funding before September 1st, is a 2-4 player board game that sees one player take on the role of Karl Fairburne as they try to infiltrate a German U-boat facility. The other players control the German forces as they try to protect the base while hunting down Karl’s whereabouts. Because the sniper player uses a secret board, the board game lends itself to bluffs and misdirections, as those playing as Karl can use equipment to throw off their opponents.

Those who back the Kickstarter can receive a host of exclusive extras, including a solo player mode designed by the creator Anachrony, Dávid Turczi, along with some additional miniatures and the Eagle’s Nest expansion pack. There are also stretch goals that include a German sniper class, and the Trench Gun for Karl, with more stretch goals to be revealed as the campaign progresses.

Duncan Molloy, Head of Rebellion Unplugged, said the following in a press release about the announcement: “It’s a privilege to bring the hugely popular Sniper Elite video game series to the tabletop, with brilliant designers, beautiful art and lovingly crafted miniatures. Sniper Elite: The Board Game delivers all the tension and excitement about the video games. We can’t wait for players to get their hands on it!”

Honestly, Sniper Elite: The Board Game sounds like a faithful and enjoyable transition for the franchise, though it’s one that’ll like be improved with the liberal use of nerf guns. Any time a character gets killed, someone gets shot; rules like that which will enrich the whole experience. Will you be backing the Sniper Elite board game on Kickstarter? Sound off in the comments, but not too loud otherwise you might get found by the German forces.
