Jujutsu Kaisen has been the talk of the anime industry for quite some time, and with a prequel film being released in December 2021, demand for a follow-up to the anime has soared. Gege Akutami’s gory, grim, and ghastly shōnen already had a thrilling story, but MAPPA’s phenomenal art style added to that tenfold. But when can fans expect Jujutsu Kaisen: Season 2?

The Jujutsu Kaisen manga originally began publication in March 2018, and what was expected to be a generic entry into the field turned out to be an incredible journey. The core of Jujutsu Kaisen’s tale resonated so well with readers that it was scheduled for an anime adaptation within the first year of release.

Jujutsu Kaisen: Season 1 aired in the form of two cours from October 2020 to March 2021. The anime spanned a total of 24 episodes, each one being released weekly on Crunchyroll. The anime received critical acclaim, being named by some as the successor to the “big three anime”.

With the Jujutsu Kaisen 0 feature film heading to Crunchyroll on September 21, 2022, fans would like nothing more than to hear news about Season 2, and luckily, an official statement is already out.

When Is Jujutsu Kaisen: Season 2 Coming Out?

UPDATE JANUARY 2023: Jujutsu Kaisen has been confirmed for a July 2023 release window in Japan.

ORIGINAL STORY: In February 2022 while celebrating Jujutsu Kaisen 0’s success, Crunchyroll confirmed that development on the second season is well underway. The anime is currently slated for a 2023 release window but that’ll depend on how early MAPPA wraps up things with Chainsaw Man, which is set to air in October 2022.

The second season of Jujutsu Kaisen will most likely consist of 24 episodes airing in two cours like its predecessor, and as Crunchyroll owns the license, you won’t be able to stream it anywhere else. Currently, it’s not possible to confirm exactly when in 2023 the anime will come out, so we’d suggest you hold on tight till then.

Jujutsu Kaisen: Season 1 finished around chapter 63 of the manga, so if you’re wondering where to start from, there you have it. The manga has amassed 197 chapters as of now, so there isn’t any shortage of material for you to read.

What Is Jujutsu Kaisen: Season 2 About? (Spoiler Alert)

Jujutsu Kaisen: Season 2 will start off with the Gojo’s Past arc, which will explain how Gojo Satoro rose to the title of the world’s strongest sorcerer. The arc will dive into the early years of Gojo when he takes on the Sorcerer Killer Toji Fushiguro, who also happens to be Megumi’s father. You’d know if you’ve watched Jujutsu Kaisen 0 that Geto Suguru will also be making his appearance as he once used to be Gojo’s best friend and peer.

Getting to see Toji and Gojo’s fight animated by MAPPA would be breathtaking. Gojo’s past arc will last only a few episodes though as the Shibuya Incident arc is the next major point in the story, and inarguably the best.

You should buckle up, as the upcoming season will surely leave you emotional in more ways than one. For now, Jujutsu Kaisen: Season 2 will start streaming on Crunchyroll sometime in 2023, so we’ll keep this article updated when an official release date is announced.
