Steel Ball Run
Steel Ball Run

From medieval vampires to pillar men in World War II to the Italian mafia, JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure just throws out ridiculous storyline after ridiculous storyline. It’s not just the stories either: the absurd characters, powers, and battles make the show truly deserving of the “Bizarre” title.

With JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Part 6 – Stone Ocean finally done, all eyes are on Part 7 – Steel Ball Run. When is the Steel Ball Run anime release date, and what’s the show about?

Steel Ball Run will probably be an incredibly jarring transition, especially for JoJo fans who haven’t read the manga. The reason is that Part 7 will take place in an alternate continuity. Steel Ball Run and the future parts are a reboot of the JoJo universe. The show will introduce new concepts while making referential nods to the past series. Here’s what you need to know about the Steel Ball Run anime, including when it might release, what it’s about, and who will be in charge.

When Is Steel Ball Run Being Released?

Sadly, there are currently no announcements as to when Steel Ball Run’s anime is coming out. JoJo seasons usually take anywhere from 1-3 years to come out, so expect that Steel Ball Run to come out sometime in 2024 or 2025 to be on the safe side.

There haven’t been any announcements since the animation studio, David Production, is currently busy with other projects. They’re working on Fire Force: Season 3, Urusei Yatsura, and Undead Luck, so they have their hands full for 2023. JoJo is their most successful work though, so you can bet that they won’t just let the rest of the series go.

What Is Steel Ball Run About?

The new JoJo continuity starts off in America in the year 1890. Johnny Joestar is a former horse jockey who’s now paralyzed waist down. Johnny has a chance encounter with a man named Gyro Zeppeli, who has magical steel balls that somehow grant Johnny mysterious powers and the ability to stand up again. Curious about the balls, Johnny follows Gyro and participates in the Steel Ball Run, a brutal race across America with a $50 million prize.

One thing that this continuity keeps is the presence of Stands. This JoJo’s Stand is called Tusk, a Stand with the ability to rotate his nails and fire them violently like a gun.

Which Studio Is Making Steel Ball Run?

Warner Bros. Japan has co-produced JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure with different companies, so it’s hard to figure out which ones will produce Steel Ball Run. Although, for the last three seasons, the co-producers were consistently KlockWorx, Medicos Entertainment, and Shueisha. So they might also be behind Steel Ball Run.

The animation studio, on the other hand, has remained constant throughout the series. David Production has animated every JoJo season except for the 1993 OVAs. They will most likely be taking care of Steel Ball Run.

Where To Watch Steel Ball Run

Most of the previous parts of JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure are available on Bilibili, Crunchyroll, and Netflix, depending on your region. The only part that’s unique so far is Part 6 – Stone Ocean which is a Netflix exclusive, so you can’t watch it on other platforms.

Since no announcements have been made yet, there’s no guarantee whether Steel Ball Run will be another Netflix exclusive or if Bilibili and Crunchyroll can get the rights to it. But those are the three streaming platforms to keep an eye on for anything JoJo.
