6. Overkill’s The Walking Dead

TwdoverkillDeveloper: Overkill Software
Publisher: Starbreeze Studios, 505 Games
Platform: PC, PS4, Xbox One
When you should stock up on brown pants: Q3-Q4 2017

Shrouded in mystery since it was first announced way back in 2014, Overkill’s The Walking Dead should be out this year and expand even further on the already massive TWD universe.

Here’s what to know:

“OVERKILL’s The Walking Dead is a co-op first person shooter with elements of action, role-playing, survival horror and stealth.”

While details have been scant, three years is a long time for a game to go without many concrete updates, so expect to see some details at the start of the year and the game to drop before it’s over.

7. Visage

Visage

Developer: SadSquare Studio
Publisher: SadSquare Studio
Platform: PC
When you should stock up on brown pants: March 2017

Another game with its spiritual successor fingers in the P.T. pie, Visage will see you try to uncover the mysteries of murdered families in an old townhouse.

Utilising flashbacks and items found within the home, you can stitch everything together and somehow manage to evade their evil spirits at the same time. The Amnesia inspiration also seems, um, inspired: see too many traumatic events and it will be game over.

Successfully funded on Kickstarter, Visage is coming in the first quarter of 2017 to PC.

8. Scorn

Scorn game

Developer: Ebb Software
Publisher: Ebb Software
Platform: PC
When you should stock up on brown pants: late 2017

Similar to Agony but looking slightly more restrained, Scorn is one of the most hyped horror games in quite some time.

An open-world title in a universe full of disturbing images, Scorn will feature plenty of puzzles that will test the player: there is no HUD and there will be no prompts. Couple that with the need to adjust your playstyle to different situations and you have potentially one of the most daunting gaming experiences of the year.

The buzz is that it will be split into two parts with the first coming late this year.

9. Perception

Developer: The Deep End Games
Publisher: The Deep End Games
Platform: PC
When you should stock up on brown pants: 2017

It may not be the immediate pick for most anticipated horror game of the year of 2017 for many, but it arguably should the. Out of all the titles on this list, Perception is the most unique and explores avenues rarely walked down in the genre.

“Perception is a first-person narrative horror adventure that tells the story of Cassie, a blind heroine who uses her extraordinary hearing and razor-sharp wits to unravel the mysteries of an abandoned estate that haunts her dreams.”

We had the pleasure of interviewing the developers late last year.

10. Prey

Prey 2017

Developer: Arkane Studios
Publisher: Bethesda
Platform: PC, Xbox One, PS4
When you should stock up on brown pants: 2017

If you had told me a year ago that the Prey series would be rebooted with a new title to be released in 2017 that looked nothing like the trailer from 2011, I might have raised an eyebrow before nodding. It just makes sense.

As much as we all wanted to see Prey 2 come to fruition after years of nothing, changing the tone and turning a follow-up into a horror was a smart move. There’s certainly a market for it, especially now there’s a Bioshock-sized hole in plenty of gamers’ hearts.

You will be able to turn into a coffee mug sometime in 2017.
