Haikyuu!! Watch Order Guide (Arcs, OVAs & More)

Haikyuu
Haikyuu

Out of all sports anime, Haikyuu!! was one of the few titles that got the formula right. The author, Haruichi Furudate, gave us a story filled with exciting volleyball matches and players you’ll learn to care for. Production I.G also did a great job animating the manga, giving it the adaptation it deserves. However, you might need a Haikyuu!! watch order before you fully invest your time watching the anime.

If you’ve never heard of Haikyuu!! before, then you might be wondering what it’s all about. The anime follows Shoyo Hinata, an aspiring volleyball player who aims for the top despite his lack of height. To achieve his dream, he joins the Karasuno High Volleyball Team with his opponent in junior high, Tobio Kageyama. Together with their team, they’ll face many strong players on their path to becoming number one.

Despite its simple premise, Haikyuu!! has so much more to offer if you decide to watch it. Furthermore, now’s the best time to get into it so you can catch up before the final movies get released. If you have chosen to watch it, here’s the recommended Haikyuu!! watch order.

However, you can still watch those movies if you want a condensed version of Haikyuu!! with a few extra scenes.

Should You Watch The Haikyuu!! OVAs?

Even if the Haikyuu!! OVAs aren’t that relevant to the overall story, they’re still enjoyable to watch. They give more depth to players from other teams while showing us more comedic banter from the original cast.

For instance, the “Land vs. Sky” and  “The Path of the Ball” feature matches from the Nekoma and Fukorodani teams. It also gives more screen time and fleshes out players like Kenma, Kuroo, and Bokuto. Furthermore, it adapts Chapters 190-206 of the manga, making it canon to the story.

Meanwhile, the “Vs. Failing Grades” OVA tells a fun side story where Hinata and Kageyama struggle to pass their make-up exams. Many fans agree that this OVA is hilarious and is a must-watch if you get into Haikyuu!!.

So should you watch the Haikyuu!! OVAs? It’s up to you since you’ll still enjoy Haikyuu!! even without watching them. Still, they’ll enhance what’s already a great experience, which is why it’s recommended you check them out.
