HDR has been a huge boon for gaming, allowing developers to better showcase their games as clearly as possible, upping the luminosity gaps on screen between the brightest and darkest elements. Essentially, it helps stop images from feeling flat colour and lighting-wise. Gran Turismo 7 makes use of this feature to create some amazing looking cars and landscapes, and here’s what you need to know about enabling it.

Truthfully, you don’t actually need to enable HDR, at least not in Gran Turismo 7 anyway. The game reads your console settings, so if your PS5 is set to “Always On” or “On When Supported” with regards to HDR, then Gran Turismo 7’s HDR will be on by default. Similarly, if your PS4’s HDR setting is on “Automatic”, then HDR will be supported. Naturally, you’ll have to be connected to a HDR enabled TV or monitor for it to work.

When you boot the game up for the first time, Gran Turismo 7 will run through its display settings with you, and if you’ve got HDR enabled, you’ll be able to tinker with both the exposure and saturation levels, allowing you to nail the visual settings that are right for you. If you get into the game itself and find that the settings aren’t working, you can simply head back into the Display Settings menu and play around with them some more.

Gran Turismo 7 is available on PS5 and PS4.
