From the very beginning of a fresh God of War Ragnarok playthrough, the boss fights begin as Bjorn, the huge, aggressive bear, is the first challenging encounter in the game. As the first real boss fight, Bjorn is designed to teach the basic combat techniques that will become a staple part of your God of War Ragnarok gameplay. Here’s how to defeat Bjorn.
The battle arena is fairly small, so without keeping an eye on Bjorn’s location it could be easy to find yourself pushed into a corner with little room to retaliate or avoid incoming attacks. Bjorn’s attacks are easy to parry and they’re telegraphed from an early stage, meaning you’ll see an indicator on screen that the bear is about to attack.
There are rarely any down moments here as Bjorn relentlessly attempts to claw at Kratos. The good news is there are no surprises during this early fight. The only truly dangerous moment is when Bjorn decides to charge towards Kratos, which is an unblockable attack. It’s very linear and easy to spot, but must be dodged.
There are plentiful healthstones around the battle arena which should help if Kratos does get hit without the biggest pool of health to rely on. Just make sure you keep an eye on Bjorn whilst making a dash for a healthstone as he could take a chance when Kratos’ back is turned to unleash another attack.
