When you think of iconic comedy anime, one of the first examples that come to your mind is probably Gintama. However, even iconic shows aren’t perfect. With over seven seasons and several movies, it’s a surprise to no one that the show has amassed a couple of non-plot-related filler episodes.

People who just want to get to the main plot of the show would want to skip these. Filler is simply almost unavoidable in long shows. Gintama even had an iconic bit in Episode 145 that discussed the logic behind filler episodes and why anime producers and studios add them in.  Here are all the Gintama filler episodes you can skip if you’re pressed for time during your binge sessions.

Gintama Filler List

Over its 15-year run, Gintama has garnered 22 filler episodes. For a show this big, that is a remarkably small number, making up only 6% of the show’s episodes, and that’s not even counting the movies and OVAs. For comparison, Naruto, another long-running show, has a whopping 41% of its episodes as filler. Here are all 22 Gintama filler episodes based on their order of release.

To be specific, “filler episodes” means episodes that are completely anime exclusive and do not appear in the manga, the source material, in any way. Some Gintama episodes are considered “mixed,” meaning they’re partly manga-based and partly anime original. You should still watch these episodes, which is why they aren’t included in this list.

Why Should You Skip These Gintama Filler Episodes?

If you really are pressed for time and just want to watch the “important” parts of the show, feel free to skip them. You won’t miss any major plot points by doing so. It’s perfectly understandable since Gintama is an incredibly long show.

However, Gintama is a comedy show; it’s bound to have segues and non-plot-related episodes every now and then. If you watch Gintama for the hilarious moments, then it’s actually advised that you don’t skip the filler episodes. Especially since the first two episodes are fillers, but you’d be missing out on the anime’s introduction if you skip them.

Fans consider Gintama filler episodes fun and unforced, and since there are so few of them, you could give them a shot whenever you have the time.

Filler episodes aren’t the only thing that can slow down your Gintama binge-watch. Here’s a Gintama watch order to help you keep track of all the series’ episodes, movies, and OVAs.
