Ghost of Tsushima: Director’s Cut brings a whole new bunch of content to the samurai PlayStation exclusive with it also getting a port to the PlayStation 5. If you’ve already completed the game on the older console though, you’re going to want to transfer your Ghost of Tsushima save data from PS4 to PS5 to keep your progress.

It’s a very simple process, infinitely more so than actually figuring out how to play the game on PS5, but it still might be easy to get a little confused with all the different versions of the game. As long as you’ve updated your PS4 version of Ghost of Tsushima to the most recent version, you should have no trouble at all transferring saves.

There are actually three different ways of transferring your Ghost of Tsushima save data from PS4 to PS5, which applies whether you’re just playing the original game or Director’s Cut via backwards compatibility or have paid to upgrade to the PS5 version’s Director’s Cut.

Ghost of Tsushima: How To Transfer PS4 Saves To PS5 via Wi-Fi

As long as your PS4 and PS5 are next to each other, you can transfer your data from the former to the latter thanks to the PS5’s Data Transfer function.

With both consoles powered on and on the same WiFi network, go to Settings (top right) on your PS5 > System Software > Data Transfer and then follow the steps to transfer your save date over, which will include Tsushima if you’ve already played it on the PS4.

After brief wait, the data should then be transferred. You can also do this method if you want to move over Ghost of Tsushima itself, though this will just be via backwards compatibility unless you pay for the upgrade. Also be sure that you aren’t transferring the game to the SSD, which is space that you will need for PS5 games unless you can install a bigger M.2.

Ghost of Tsushima: How To Transfer PS4 Saves To PS5 via the Cloud

You’re able to move your Ghost of Tsushima saves from PS4 to PS5 if you’ve enabled cloud saves with an active PlayStation Plus subscription. This method is unavailable to those who do not subscribe to Plus.

To enable automatic cloud saves from Ghost of Tsushima on your PS4, go to Settings > Application Data Management > Auto-Upload > and then tick Enable Automatic Uploads.

To then upload any Ghost of Tsushima save data you already have to the cloud, go to Settings > Application Data Management > Saved Data in System Storage > Upload to Online Storage and then select and upload Ghost of Tsushima.

On your PS5, go to Settings, which is located in the top right of your main dashboard, and then Saved Data and Game/App Settings.

Ghost of Tsushima: How To Transfer PS4 Saves To PS5 via USB

The second method of transferring Ghost of Tsushima saves is a lot more simple and doesn’t require a subscription, just a USB drive.

On your PS4, ensuring your version of Ghost of Tsushima on PS4 is the most current one, go to Settings > Application Saved Data Management > Saved Data in System Storage > Copy to USB Storage Device and then select Ghost of Tsushima. Copy the save data to your USB; the process should take less than a second.

Insert the USB into your PS5 (the front port will do) and then go to Settings, and select Saved Data and Game/App Settings.

Opt for Saved Data (PS4), then hit USB Drive.

You should then be able to explore Iki island in the Director’s Cut from the beginning of the game if you’ve already managed to get past Act 2 in your original save.
