Week 6 of Season 7 has seen the return of a once thought retired challenge: the searching of ‘gnomes’. This challenge is a very involved scavenger hunt style challenge that was very popular in the earlier iterations of the Battle Pass challenges (back before the Free Tier even existed). Therefore, as you may have guessed, gnomes are back and littered throughout the map, but this time, they’re somewhat festive, frozen in ice cubes.
The goal is to locate seven different Chilly Gnomes. Interacting with them will cause them to disappear, which will prevent you from using the same one twice. Quitting before finishing the match (dying or winning) will cause the Gnome to respawn and lose credit for finding it. As their name suggests, they’re found in the frozen area (southwest) of the map and they seem to appear outside (hence frozen). This means you should be focusing your search on that area specifically, avoiding indoor areas.
Either way, the condensed location of all the gnomes, the addition of the Stormwing and them all being outdoors means doing a large scale ‘scavenger hunt’ style challenge has never been easier. The biggest challenge is spotting them as they’re typically just sitting out the frozen white expanse with no particular rules governing their spawn out in said expanse.
Like the gnomes from previous incarnations of this challenge, the gnomes will make a sound if you’re close to them. If you hear the sound of shivering, you’ll know one is nearby. You can turn your sound FX volume up if you want an easier time locating them (as they’re quite small and difficult to spot visually, due to being out in the open). However, this will make gunshots, footsteps and other sound effects much louder, so keep that in mind.
Fortnite Chilly Gnomes Locations
Above is a map of seven Chilly Gnomes, all circled in red. This is enough to complete the challenge, but Epic tends to build redundancies into their challenges, so there is almost assuredly more than seven Chilly Gnomes on the map.
As you can see, all the Gnomes we’ve located are in the same general area of the map.
Polar Peak Chilly Gnome
Unfortunately I don’t have a picture of this particular Gnome’s location. You’ll find it on the eastern side of the peak right near a stone watchtower and a magnetic zipline. C8 on the main map’s grid.
Southeastern Chilly Gnome
This Chilly Gnome will be frozen halfway in a block of ice on the small hill to the direct east of Happy Hamlet. Located at E9 on the main map’s grid.
Southwestern Chilly Gnome
This Chilly Gnome is truly isolated away from any named location. To the west of Happy Hamlet and southeast of Frosty Flights is a hole in the ground surrounded by trees. In this hole you’ll see a Stormwing will be hanging precariously over the ledge — you know you’ll be in the general location. Jump down into the hole and you’ll find the gnome on the floor near the wooden stairs. B9 on the main map’s grid.
Shifty Shafts Chilly Gnome
To the south of Shifty Shafts is a large hill with a grand tree atop of it. To the south of that tree is a Chilly Gnome perched precariously on the ledge. You’ll find this at D8 on the main map’s grid.
Tilted Towers Chilly Gnome
The massive hill to the south of Tilted Towers will feature an RV and dilapidated wooden shed. The Chilly Gnome is found just next to that RV. D6 on the main map’s grid.
Viking Village Chilly Gnome
While Viking Village isn’t a location named on the map specifically, you’ll find the village on the northwestern edge of frozen tundra area. Right up at the peak of this mountain, on the eastern perimeter of the village (at the top of the peak still) is the Chilly Gnome. You’ll find this at B6 on the main map’s grid.
Western Chilly Gnome
The seventh gnome can be found out in the frozen wilderness to the north of Frosty Flights. A fair distance from Frosty Flights will be a lone cabin and some trees atop a hill. Slightly to the north of that cabin, you’ll find a Chilly Gnome half buried in the snow near some trees. B7 on the main map’s grid.
These seven locations should help you get through the challenge if you’re aiming to get it done quickly. Otherwise there should be other Chilly Gnomes hidden in the southwest frozen tundra. Otherwise that’s it for the week with most of the focus being placed on this challenge.
