Fortnite Season 6: What Are Makeshift Weapons?

Make yourself scarce.

Makeshift Weapons were first introduced in Fortnite: Chapter 2 – Season 6 as a drastic shake-up to the meta. But what are Makeshift Weapons, and how do they work?

Basically, they are the worst weapons in the game. Cobbled together by the residents of the Fortnite island after the events of the Zero Crisis Finale that wiped out all technology, they are intended to be bad with lower damage, ammo counts, and stats across the board.

Makeshift Weapons are required to craft other weapon types in the game, including Primal and Mechanical. So, for instance: if you have a Makeshift Bow and Animal Bones, you will be able to make a Primal Bow. If you have a Makeshift Bow and Mechanical Parts instead, you will be able to make a Mechanical Bow. From there, you can then make even better bows with unique traits.

Makeshift weapons include:

– Makeshift Rifle
– Makeshift Shotgun
– Makeshift Revolver

The Makeshift Shotgun is a good example of how you should try to craft or find a better weapon as soon as you can, as you can only shoot twice with it before you need to reload. With Animal Bones, you can make a Primal Shotgun with a very high rate of fire. With Mechanical Parts, the classic Pump Shotgun will be yours.

Makeshift Weapons are really a fascinating addition to what has been a dramatically different season of Fortnite already. While it may be frustrating that the loot pool is now much more complex than before, it could be just the shake-up the game needed to keep itself fresh.

Fortnite is free-to-play on PC via the Epic Games Store, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X | S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and Android.
